Chuck Foreman – Teaching Pastor
As a Christian, giving of ourselves, possessions and money to the work of God in the world is not a tactical strategy to receive more back for ourselves. Although giving or tithing is often taught from that angle, giving of our resources, as taught in scripture, is a matter of the heart. “God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor. 9:7) That’s probably because when we do something cheerfully, we do it willingly. That’s what makes our gift acceptable to God. (2 Cor. 8:12) That’s what makes him delight in giving us all we need. Fathers love to help and bless generous children. When we give, we give because it’s the right thing to do. Our generosity makes a difference in our world full of needy, hurting people who need help and hope.
Giving to the work of God in the world through his Church makes us players in His Kingdom and gives us a stake in what He is doing. Giving gives wings and substance to our prayers, especially when we pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Amen.
