50 Shades Of Grey Is Not Gray

Chuck Foreman – Teaching Pastor

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

I want to encourage you to read the article here about the book and new movie, “50 Shades of Grey.” As Followers of Christ, we need to understand that what the Bible teaches about our sexuality and its fulfillment is pretty black and white. God has more in mind for human sexuality than it simply becoming about the exploitation of another who becomes a sex object rather than a human being worthy of love and protection and respect and dignity. Our own sexuality (which is a gift to us from our Creator) is only fulfilled within the security of a committed relationship. Outside of that boundary, someone’s dignity gets taken from them and their self-worth is tied to the sex they can provide rather than to their being an image bearer of God himself.

Be careful what you read. Be careful what you watch. Be careful how you think. The following may be God’s best Word to us on this matter:

“So I urge you brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your reasonable act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and prefect will.” (Romans 12:1-2)

I know this all sounds old school, but it’s a good school. Show me a better one—I dare you.
