Chuck Foreman – Teaching Pastor
When Jesus began his ministry, he got his personal mission statement from a passage in Isaiah which was written about him centuries earlier.
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Isaiah 61:1-2; Luke 4:16-21)
Our African brothers and sisters who comprise Missions of Hope in the Mathare Slum of Nairobi, Kenya, take their cue from Jesus and believe that they too are called to bring good news to the poor. The good news they are proclaiming is this: Jesus can give you hope and a new life. Simply learning to follow him and to live by the ways of his kingdom can lift you out of both your spiritual and economic poverty.
And it’s happening. The valley of darkness is becoming the Mountain of God. Listen today as our FCC team shares about their experience in the Mathare Slum last week.
