Message Monday 11/16/15 – The Sacraments: Born Of Water & The Spirit

Chuck Foreman – Teaching Pastor

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”  And,  “…no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. ”  (John 3:3,5)  Jesus was talking about a real life change within.  Something has to happen to us for us to be with God and be a part of the Kingdom he is establishing on earth.  We have to start over, begin again—be reborn.  We have to be “given birth” by the Spirit of God. The good news in all of this is that God is willing to give us a new, clean slate and give us His Spirit to empower a new life within us.  It’s not something we can do for ourselves.  We can’t self-correct and God seems to know that we simply need a chance to push restart.

Our baptism is a beautiful picture of this rebirth and of everything that needs to happen in usand to us when we decide to get reconnected to our Creator and take him up on his offer of a fresh start and a new life. When we genuinely take him up on this offer, which, by the way, is too good to pass up, he comes through for us and new life begins. I think this is why baptism is a sacred event in the Church and practiced across denominational lines throughout Christendom. It’s good for us to understand what it means, what it symbolizes and why we practice it. It is a profound experience when we do.
