Message Monday 8/13/18 – Parables For The Jesus Follower: The Unmerciful Servant

Chuck Foreman – Teaching / Missions Pastor

We seem to specialize in making little messes into big messes when we don’t handle conflict well and when we aren’t willing to extend mercy to those who offend and hurt us.

This is the unmistakable message of Jesus’ Parable of the Unmerciful Servant.  Jesus’ parable was precipitated by Peter’s question about how many times he should forgive his brother or sister when they sin against him. And Peter’s question came from his needing some clarification over some pretty heavy teaching Jesus had just dropped on his disciples about dealing with sin in the church. Check out the whole series of events in Matthew 18:15-25.

Jesus is trying to tell us that— God is a merciful King. He wants to be at peace with us. He wants us to be at peace with each other. Talking to each other, not about each other; listening to and forgiving each other is  the Way of the Kingdom of Heaven.
