Message Monday 05/04/14 – The Way Of Honesty

I’ve been thinking a lot about honesty lately. I’ve decided it takes both a lot of courage and a lot of humility to be honest. It takes courage to stand up and be honest about what you know is true, or about how you may have screwed up, rather than to protect yourself and your reputation by covering it up.  And it takes an intentional humility to just be real—to resist the urge to be a self-promoter, to present yourself as better than you really are.  And after profoundly contemplating the depths of these attributes of honesty, I am so glad that I’ve never, ever fearfully wimped out on the truth, or pridefully self-promoted!   (more…)

Message Monday 04/27/14 – The Way Of Courage

“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord or ashamed of me his prisoner.”  These are Paul’s words to Timothy (2 Timothy 1:7-8). Paul was under house arrest in Rome at the time he wrote this. He was preparing to stand trial before Caesar and face his Jewish accusers because of his faith in the resurrected Jesus. It would likely come out during his trial that he also refused to worship the emperor before whom he stood. He knew what it meant to be unashamed of the truth, to tell the truth and courageously face the consequences.  (more…)
